Unread post First Build - 9'0" Wing
Hi,

Finally taking time to post some pics of my first build.

I am building Rich's 9'0" Wing.

I managed to glue to 9 foot stringer in one piece diagonally on the sheet of plywood. A friend of mine has a large format plotter so I printed the pdf file as one, a lot easier than gluing a bunch of sheets together.

The Shaping stand was modified from http://bp1.blogger.com/_2EyVGqbKhOk/RjF ... _stand.JPG I thing I found the original plans on Swaylocks but can't find the link anymore.

Sorry about the double post, image was too big the first time and didn't load. Didn't think it posted the message.

Here's my rocker table. I am sure I got the idea for this from photos from someone on this site. Can't remember who so I can't credit him though. I don't own a lot of clamps so I figured the threaded rod approach would be cheaper.

1/4" Ply seems to have just the right amount of bend to conform to the top of the ribs so that's what I'll use for clamping.

The threaded rods go through a 2x2 that's bolted to the side of the rocker table so I can remove the rods quickly (4 bolts per side) when not needed.

I ended up adding 1/2" plywood to the top of the table because I did not have supports under some of the ribs.

I decided to cut the notches in the ribs and stringer before cutting the top of the stringer off the plywood sheet. Figured there was less chance of breaking things that way. Once I was happy with the dry fit of the ribs then I cut the top of the stringer.

Frame is now glued. At first I did not think I was going to cut lightening holes in the stringer, afraid it would be too weak, but I saw lots of pictures here with drilled stringers so I'll try to do that without breaking the thing.

A few more planks to plane and then I'll be ready to glue the bottom deck together. This is getting exciting.

Layout of the decks. A few planks need another run through the planer so I can't glue them just yet.

First shot at laminating boards. I figured the thin strips I'm using in the middle of the deck would be a pain so I decided to glue them together first.

I used tape on the outside of the boards, as suggested in the "New Builders" section. For a good example on how to do this check out:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RXy2MtzX ... re=related

I used some 2" x 1/4" X 10 foot aluminum strait edges (that I bought for tiling the kitchen floor) on the outsides. Keeps things straight and gives more even pressure throughout the length between clamps. Also means I don't have the pipe clamps directly on the strips. Luckily these are just a bit thinner than my wood strips. Got them at a bulk metal sales shop and cut to the size I wanted.

I used the rocker table threaded rods for vertical clamping. Not the fastest but it works well. I put wax paper between the cedar strips and the boards used for vertical clamping to keep the whole works from all getting glued together.
